Is the lesson learned?

There is an old saying that expresses the following belief:

People learn from their mistakes

But is that true? Did the person who said this for the first time, really , truly, believed in this crap? Or was he just saying this because it sounded wise?

I would seriously bet in the last one. Come on... We all say " oh my God! I shouldn't have done this! Next time I'll know better! I'm not going to do the same mistake again!!" and then, they are confronted with exactly the same situation and, I would say 70% of the people, would end up saying this "Oh!!How could I do it again? I should have seen this coming! I've been here before, so how couldn't I just do it another way? How did I just ended up doing the same mistake again?!" Tipical... and this will happen again, and again, and again...

I'm seriously one of those 70%....
